Epic battle #2: Architect vs. Hydrologist
Nurturing career discovery to help young people uncover opportunities and tap into their amazing potential!
Let today’s epic battle begin…
Architect vs. Hydrologist
In the arena today are two educated professionals who both contribute to meeting everyday human needs. Will the “aspirational yet practical Architect” or the “necessary for life on earth” water scientist Hydrologist win this epic battle?
How AI will change these professions 🤖
AI will likely assist architects by taking over certain design and construction tasks, as well as helping spark ideas and creativity. Holistic building design that incorporates human needs, desires, and the changing environment will still require human critical thinking, so architects aren’t going anywhere!
AI will help hydrologists with data computation, modeling, and analysis; however, we think a person will still need to be involved in guiding the research. Plus, hydrologists are also involved in field investigations and working in remote and rugged terrain, which AI isn’t going to help with anytime soon.
Job Growth 📈
Both of these professions aren’t high growth. While architects are projected to grow around 3% over the next decade, that’s slower than the national average.
Hydrologists aren’t projected to grow at all. New jobs will come through replacement due to retirements or career changes.
Global Impact 🌎
We have to give the global impact point to hydrologists as water is a global resource that is absolutely essential for life on Earth. Don’t completely count out architects though, especially when it comes to new developments in Green Design that will help lessen our environmental impact.
